Code of Conduct

The Nashoba Youth Hockey Association (“NYH”) is committed to fostering a positive, respectful, and development-focused environment for all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents, and spectators. Participation in NYH is a privilege that carries the responsibility to uphold the values of sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork.

This Code of Conduct applies at all NYH-related activities, including practices, games, tournaments, team events, meetings, locker rooms, and any NYH-associated communication (including email, text, and social media).


General Expectations for All Members

All participants in Nashoba Youth Hockey Association are expected to:

  • Treat all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and families with respect
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times, regardless of the score or outcome
  • Support a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for youth athletes
  • Communicate respectfully and constructively
  • Follow all Association rules, rink rules, and governing hockey regulations
  • Respect decisions made by coaches, officials, and Association leadership


Player Expectations

Players are expected to:

  • Show respect to teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials
  • Arrive on time and prepared for all practices, games, and team activities
  • Put forth effort and maintain a positive attitude
  • Accept coaching decisions regarding positions, ice time, line combinations, and team roles
  • Refrain from unsportsmanlike conduct, including taunting, fighting, or verbal abuse
  • Use appropriate language at all times


Parent and Spectator Expectations

Parents and spectators play an important role in creating a positive youth sports experience. Expected behavior includes:

  • Encouraging players and supporting effort over outcome
  • Refraining from coaching from the stands or interfering with team decisions
  • Respecting officials’ calls without confrontation or argument
  • Supporting coaches’ decisions regarding player placement, positions, ice time, and strategy
  • Refraining from negative comments toward players, coaches, officials, or other families
  • Maintaining appropriate conduct at all rinks and NYH events

Parents and spectators are reminded that youth hockey is designed to support development, not entitlement to specific roles or playing time.


Coach and Volunteer Expectations

Coaches and volunteers are expected to:

  • Serve as role models of sportsmanship and respect
  • Treat all players fairly and consistently
  • Prioritize player safety, development, and team cohesion
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with players and families
  • Make team decisions in the best interest of the group as a whole
  • Avoid favoritism or inappropriate treatment of any player


Team and Hockey Operations Respect

All members are expected to respect the integrity of hockey operations, including but not limited to:

  • Pre-season evaluations and player placements
  • Team assignments and roster decisions
  • Game-day lineups and positional assignments
  • Ice time distribution and coaching strategy
  • Practice planning and team development decisions
  • Scheduling changes and administrative adjustments

These decisions are made by coaches and Association leadership in accordance with player development goals and organizational needs.


Social Media and Communication

Members must:

  • Use respectful language in all digital communication
  • Avoid public criticism of players, coaches, officials, or the Association
  • Not use social media to harass, shame, or target individuals associated with NYH
  • Address concerns through appropriate internal Association channels


Enforcement and Consequences

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, which may include:

  • Verbal or written warning
  • Removal from practice, game, or team activity
  • Suspension from Association events
  • Loss of volunteer or spectator privileges
  • Expulsion from the Association in serious cases

NYH reserves the right to determine appropriate consequences based on the severity and nature of the behavior.



Commitment to the Game

NYH believes youth hockey should build character, teamwork, resilience, and respect for others. Every member shares responsibility for maintaining an environment where players can learn, compete, and enjoy the game.

By participating in NYH, all members agree to uphold this Code of Conduct.
